Studio for Human Experience Design

An obsession for the feeling.

How it feels the first time.
How it feels the thousandth.

The Studio

Most of a life is spent inside ordinary hours.

We study those hours — the app you open before you are properly awake, the room you eat in, the way a week is shaped, what you put on your body, what you put in it — and we design them to be worth living inside.

How the studio works

Five Practices

Five panes of one window.

How we work

Slowly, and from the inside.

One

Live with the question

Before anything is drawn, we spend time inside the experience itself — cooking the meals, keeping the rituals, wearing the clothes. Research that stays at a distance produces design that stays at a distance.

Two

Make it real early

A rough thing you can actually use teaches more in a week than a beautiful drawing teaches in a month. We prototype in the material, at full size, as soon as we can.

Three

Refine until it disappears

The finished version of a good design is not noticed. It fits so closely to the person that it stops being an object and becomes part of how they move through a day.

Write to the studio

If any of this is the work you are trying to do, write.

Most of the work here began as the studio's own, and is published as it matures. Some of it is for other people.
