The Studio

Most of a life is spent inside ordinary hours.

We study those hours — the app you open before you are properly awake, the room you eat in, the way a week is shaped, what you put on your body, what you put in it — and we design them to be worth living inside.

Beauty here is not decoration. It is a form of care that can be built into a thing, and felt every day by the person using it.

How the studio works

Five Practices

Five panes of one window.

Each takes a single essential surface of daily living and asks the same question: what would this feel like if it were made with complete care?

How we work

Slowly, and from the inside.

One

Live with the question

Before anything is drawn, we spend time inside the experience itself — cooking the meals, keeping the rituals, wearing the clothes. Research that stays at a distance produces design that stays at a distance.

Two

Make it real early

A rough thing you can actually use teaches more in a week than a beautiful drawing teaches in a month. We prototype in the material, at full size, as soon as we can.

Three

Refine until it disappears

The finished version of a good design is not noticed. It fits so closely to the person that it stops being an object and becomes part of how they move through a day.

Work with the studio

If any of this is the work you are trying to do, write.

The studio takes on a small number of collaborations, commissions and research partnerships each year.
