Rhythm
rituals that hold the essentials,
so the day stays free
A life with no form is not free, only busy. When the necessary things are held reliably, attention is released for everything a person is actually here to do.
What we are studying
Which tasks recur, what they truly cost, and what happens to a household when they go unheld. The laundry is never only the laundry.
How traditions used to carry this weight — the fixed hour, the shared meal, the seasonal turn — and what was quietly lost when they were dropped without replacement.
The difference between a routine and a ritual. A routine is a task repeated. A ritual is a task given a shape, a beginning and an end, so that it returns something to the person performing it.
What we are making
Rituals with real form, at every scale: the morning, the meal, the week, the season, the year. Designed so the essential is handled structurally rather than by daily willpower.
Simple physical instruments that hold the structure so the mind does not have to — a board, a card, a bell, a bowl, a place where a thing always lives.
Rituals that can be kept by a household of one or of six, and that survive a bad week without collapsing.
Where it is going
A book of rituals and a small set of objects that carry them.
